RESULTS OF THE COMPETITION ON THE CREATIVE CAMPAIGN
The second stage of the ''Closer to Kenya'' project addressed to high school students with whom trainers from Forum and Simba Friends held classes about Kenya was a COMPETITION on the creative educational campaign about Africa.
The purpose of the contest was to inspire teenagers to personal involvement and conscious action for cross-cultural dialog and realization of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
The main prize will be joint realization of the campaign in 2007 and study trip to Kenya - to village Sega where Simba Friends Foundation (www.simbafriends.org) realizes project of extension of Kogere Primary School; to headquarters of UNEP in Nairobi (www.unep.org) and Kenyan millennium village (www.unmillenniumproject.org).
After consultation with people involved in realization of the project ''Closer to Kenya'' the proposal of ANNA SZMIDT – a student from Dabrowski Secondary School in Warsaw – was distinguished.
Project of campaign is titled ''THE MOST INTERESTING IS WHAT IS HIDDEN – to understand another culture means to meet people'' and – how author is writing – ''it is based on cooperation of African and Polish schools. Do we want to get to know each other? Great, so lets do something together! Let it not be just an informational campaign''.
The proposed elements of the project are: radio with Kenyan popular music, photo exhibition prepared by Kenyan peers, tasting of Kenyan cuisine, exchange of information about everyday problems, relations with parents, etc.
Because of a small number of received projects and a need of slide modification of the distinguished project the main prize – trip to Kenya – will be 'suspended' until the campaign is realized. The author was invited to cooperate with KPF in 2007 to jointly realize the campaign, which would be ended by study tour to Kenya.
Anna Szmidt is writing about herself:
''I am interested in African, especially Kenyan issues for a long time. I was involved in such actions as 'Make Poverty History' and since one year I am learning Swahili (…) I’m sure that my project would catch attention of Polish youth on how we are similar in variety of situations and how greatly different in others. It would show that the distance barrier is not an obstacle to establish contacts and that we should be more sensitive on issues of other nations''.
