LANGUAGE: OUR WINDOW ON THE WORLD. KENYA
On May 12, in a kindergarten nr. 389, Szadkowski 3 street, Warsaw, a cultural event named: "Language. Our window to the world. Kenya" took place.
The purpose of an event, which by the way happened for the first time, was introducing the culture of Kenya to children and their parents, and encourage them to using English language. The originators, Mr. and Mrs. Janiccy- English teachers, want to breed an attitude of tolerance and promote a cultural exchange. Kenyan-Polish Forum in cooperation with Simba Friends Foundation (www.simbafriends.com.pl) help the originators to prepare a happening and even participated in it.
An event started on early morning- representatives of both organizations were welcoming in the entrance children and parents delivering them to kindergarten. After greeting part there was time for working in groups. Chairman of KPF and Foundation, James Ofwona and KPF member, Martin Okoth, were teaching children song about Africa, specially composed for this occasion. There were numerous of competitions and games in which leading motive was Kenya, Africa and its culture.
Children responded with huge enthusiasm, the atmosphere of having good fun was present through whole happening. The main attraction of a day was a drum performance by Mahmadou Diouf, Senegalese known from broadcasts in Jazz Radio, Tam Tam Project and many musical and cultural events in Poland. Mamadou came into a spontaneous contact with young audience and enthusiastic children were trying their luck in playing drums.
