KARIBU KENYA 2006

This year - in order to maximize the effectiveness of our efforts - KPF has decided to broaden the formula of the Kenyan Week into KARIBU KENYA 2006 consisting of various events. Focusing on widening the Kenyan-Polish economic, tourism, political and cultural relations, we are working on following list of events that will take place under the umbrella of Karibu Kenya 2006:

• Kenyans in the Warsaw Marathon - KPF at the finish line 17th of Sept. 2006 Since 2004 Kenyan athletes have been coming to Poland to train in “Zawisza” Sport Club in Bydgoszcz and to participate in various marathon competitions. They have already gained lot of successes, winning most of the races. This year as well they will participate in the Warsaw Marathon. KPF will give them support by inviting the Kenyans living in Poland to take part in a picnic that will take place next to the finishing line. That would be a great opportunity to show the colors of Kenya in Warsaw and to officially initiate our project Karibu Kenya 2006.

• “Tourism destination - Kenya”. Workshop during TT Warsaw 21- 23 of Sept. 2006 For the third time the topic of Kenya will strongly appear at the biggest Tourism Tour Trade in Poland - TT Warsaw 2006. Workshops will be held for the Polish travel agencies (TBC) encouraging them to focus on Kenya as a great destination for the young Polish tourism market. Besides this, we will set up numerous meetings with the most important tourism institutions, airlines and travel agencies in order to work out the Polish-Kenyan strategy for tourism development.

• Kenya in the Polish media - series of TV/radio/press appearances Sept-Dec 2006 KPF has noticed a rising interest of Polish media on Kenya. We would like to deepen this by inviting some important TV channels (TVP2, TVP3), radio stations (“Zet”, “Jazz”, “Tok Fm”) and press (“Gazeta Wyborcza”, “National Geographic”) to create programs on Kenya’s culture, nature, famous personalities and relations of Kenya with Poland.

• KWS educational tour – schools, Warsaw ZOO, TV Sept- Dec 2006 In a few months KPF will host the Kenya Wildlife Service in Warsaw. This will give an exceptional opportunity for the Polish Ministry of Environment, the Faculty of the Environment of the Warsaw University, and for the Warsaw ZOO to hear about the experience of Kenya Wildlife Service in green policy, environmental protection and biodiversity of Kenyan land. This will also help in creating a more personal link between Polish and Kenyan scientists.

• Kenyan-Polish Economic Round Table – Warsaw Edition Sept - Dec 2006 Following the Business Round Table held during the Polish Days (May 2006) in Nairobi we will organise Kenyan-Polish Economic Round Table in Warsaw. This event, in co-operation with Export Promotion Council will aim at further analysis and development of ways to improve trade and investment between the two countries.

• Inauguration of the 2nd year of direct charter flights to Mombasa Oct/Nov 2006 At the turn of October and November 2006 the second round of direct charter flights between Warsaw and Mombasa will begin. To inaugurate this event we are preparing a press conference on Kenya and it’s attractiveness for Polish tourist market and business investors. • Kenya in the Warsaw Ethnographic Museum Sept - Dec 2006 KPF is working with the Warsaw Ethnographic Museum (WEM) to prepare a Kenyan stand during the annual Ethnic Products Market organized in the center of Warsaw by WEM. During this event the Poles will have an opportunity to purchase Kenyan curios, to listen to Kenyan music and to be involved in games and plays. In December, during the inauguration of the African Art Exhibition, KPF will assist this ceremony by giving patronage and presenting materials on Kenya.

• Photo exhibitions in various venues Sept-Dec 2006 KPF will invite various Polish artists, writers and photographers to display their works during all the Karibu Kenya 2006 events.

• Giving lectures on Kenya in Polish high schools Sept- Dec 2006 We are starting an educational program on Kenya’s social, cultural, and linguistic aspects, that we will be presented and discussed in schools in each province in Poland. Our purpose is to introduce Kenya to the youth, show them Kenya’s diversity and to evoke their interests in Kenya. We consider this project an important step in the building of long-lasting mutual understanding of cultures.

• 1000 billboards campaign on Kenya January 2007 KPF intends to carry out a campaign in January 2007 to post 1000 billboards on Kenya in every major city in Poland. KPF will make the idea of visualizing Kenya in Poland come true.

We are sure that these various events will mark significant steps forward in bringing the two countries closer together. We would like to invite you to join the KARIBU KENYA 2006 project, share your opinions on it and inspire us with your ideas, plans suggestions and support.
