The Visit in Three Schools of Sega Village in Western Kenya
During their January stay in Kenia, James Ofwona, the chairman of the KPF board and Katarzyna Słowik from Simba Friends Foundation paid a visit to three schools in Sega Village, which is located quite near to Victoria Lake. The main purpose of the visit was to establish the long-term cooperation with these institutions. The support plan for Sega is a part of much wider project, which consists in development of the region on the basis of supporting education system, agriculture and introducing the new technology to its inhabitants. Our project is called 'Sega Silicon Valey' for the fact that we want to put a certain stress on educating people in the field of computer and telecommunications technologies and through so create a peculiar computer science area in the Sega region.
Sega Township Secondary School was the first one, we payed a visit to. Although it has functioned for just a few years, it can be proud of its high position among educational institutions in the region. This is mostly based on the results achieved by its students during the final state-exam. With a huge pleasure we were able to inform the school management, that soon their institution would be supplied with 20 computers. This will be possible thanks to 'Computers for Schools' Organization, whose chairman we had met with in Nairobi few days before. The organization receives the secondhand equipment from the companies and it donates it to Kenyan schools, that lack so. We also found out that among another nessecities Sega Township Secondary School needs a big water container.

The other institution we visited was Sega Township Primary School. This is a public school with a large number of pupils and it faces a lot of problems associated with the lack of indispensable founds. After we had been acquainted with the essential struggling and need of the school, we decided to help it by creating a big library, which would enable rising the education standards. We also plan to supply the institution with first aid goods, basic medicaments and sanitary materials in order to improve the students health care.

In the end we visited Kogere Primary School, which is located few kilometers away from the village and which situation is definitely the worst among the institutions, we had been to. The school lacks almost everything- desks, chairs, blackboards, textbooks and teaching aids. The building is neither plastered nor painted. It has neither doors nor windows and it lacks a descent floor. Our plan is to collect the needed founds and with a help of volunteers from Poland renovate and supply the Kogere school.
