The Visit in Orphanage in Nakuru Payed by the KPF Representatives

The representatives of KPF department in Warsaw during their stay in Kenya in the second half of January 2006 not only admired the beauty of local natural environment, but also realized the number of ventures leading to strengthen the mutual relations between Kenya and Poland. One of mentioned measures was a visit in the Nakuru Orphanage, which is run by incredible Mama Justine Oduya within the confines of Child Welfare Society of Kenya (e-mail: nalapset@wananchi.com, tel. + 254 51 221 58 93). The orphanage at the moment takes care of 213 children at the age of 0-15. Most of them are orphans or children brought up on a street. Mama Justine sacrifies all her energy not only for getting the financial support for the maintenance (the center is not supported by the government), but also for the descent upbringing. All the children wearing modest, but neat clothes attend classes either in the local kindergarten or schools. They work in a kitchen, laundry and a garden. After fulfilling their duties, they play and have fun. There is no place for boredom and sadness.

On the occasion of the visit in Nakuru orphanage KPF representatives provided the center with financial support and promised to spread the idea of active support for orphans in Kenya. It appeared that apart from the single support forms (and here everything is a necessity- clothes, equipment, medicaments and finally money), there successfully functions 'The Adoption of Heart' program, which has been already known in Poland. It consists in the conscious 'adoption' of a particular child by the person from Poland, who declares to provide the amount of 230 EUR per year for the educational needs and maintenance of the child. Of course 'parents' and 'adopted' children stay in touch by mutual correspondence, and if someone decides for a trip to Kenya, they meet with their charge.
